EDEM Overview:

EDEM is the world's first general-purpose CAE tool designed using state-of-the-art discrete element modelling technology for the simulation and analysis of particle handling and manufacturing operations.

With EDEM you can quickly and easily create a parameterised model of your granular solids system. CAD models of real particles can be imported to obtain an accurate representation of their shape. Add the mechanical, material and other physical properties to form your model particles. These can be stored in a library allowing you to build a collection specific to your processes.

EDEM's Particle Factory technology also provides a unique method for efficiently generating assemblies of particles in association with the machine geometry. Machine geometry is imported from your CAD or CAE system as a solid model or mesh. Machine components can be grouped and you can specify the kinematics of each group individually.

EDEM is the world's first DEM software that can be coupled directly with CFD software to model solid-fluid phase systems at the particle-scale. This uniquely enables modelling of systems where particle-particle and particle-wall interaction is critical to system behaviour. EDEM also couples with FEA tools: you can simulate the dynamic loading on machine components and export results directly to your preferred structural analysis tool.

EDEM is a powerful addition to the suite of LEAP's CAE software tools. We encourage our customers to utilise its unique capability to provide new insights in to your particulate processing and manufacturing operations.

EDEM v2.3 now available for customer download

EDEM's physics-based analysis greatly improves the understanding of system fundamentals, enabling engineers to test virtual prototypes of bulk solids handling and processing equipment to help optimise the material flow and to troubleshoot difficult particle processes - leading to better process design, innovation and improved control over final product quality.

New features and enhancements in EDEM 2.3 are helping customers to:

  • Speed up prototype design with CAD-related workflow improvements
  • Easily visualise Particle-Structure Interactions (PSI)
  • Benefit from increased capability in the EDEM software platform - expanded range of advanced simulation solutions, increased options for advanced customisation, and wider range of EDEM research applications

DEM Solutions has extensive experience in partnering with customers to provide technical services needed to develop and implement advanced bulk materials modeling solutions to meet specific customer needs.

"Many of the features in EDEM 2.3 are the direct result of working with our customers to help them solve their bulk material flow challenges. Our responsiveness to user needs, in a very wide variety of application areas, has led us to continually improve and upgrade our software platform. As a result, DEM Solutions remains the DEM technology leader and EDEM continues to set the industry standard for state-of-the-art DEM software".
